The weather may not have been much to shout about so far, but banish those summertime blues by coming along to Friary Guildford Band’s Summer Gala Concert on Saturday 7th July, 7.30 pm at the United Reformed Church, White Rose Lane, Woking GU22 7HA. Bright and breezy, the programme covers Bach, Bernstein and the Beatles, swing and jazz standards, and a stirring British piece to mark the Jubilee, so there’s plenty for everyone to enjoy. There are two stunning soloists, and if there’s enough applause at the end, there are two exciting encores lined up to round off the evening as well. Friary Guildford are Surrey’s only Championship band, taking third place in the London & Southern Counties Regional Championship (Championship Section) at Stevenage in March. They have entertained sporting audiences at Wembley Stadium, Twickenham, Ascot and Sandown Park, and are the only Southern band ever to have won the First Section National Champions of Great Britain title. Come rain or shine, the Summer Gala Concert will be a musical evening to remember.
