High-flying Friary Guildford Band takes the stage at Alton College on Saturday 13th October for a charity concert organised by the Inner Wheel Club of Alton in aid of the Rosemary Foundation and St. Michael's Hospice. The band has a wide repertoire, ranging from popular classics, original brass music, jazz and swing standards through to arrangements of popular contemporary music, so there is something for everyone. The band will also be showcasing a number of its talented soloists. As well as staging concerts, the band is a keen competitor in the contest arena, and is the only Southern band ever to have won the First Section National Championships of Great Britain, in 2010. It is the only Championship Section band in Surrey and East Hampshire, missing out on a trip to the Royal Albert Hall for this year’s National Championships by one place at the regional finals. Outside engagements include playing for the Gillette Four Nations Rugby League at Wembley Stadium, the QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot, and the RBS Six Nations Rugby at Twickenham. Friary’s Public Relations Officer, Tim Straker said: “If you think top quality brass bands are only to be found in the North, please come along and be surprised as well as entertained! And you’ll be helping to support two highly deserving local charities as well.” Tickets £10 inc. glass of wine are obtainable from Altonian Coaches, Westbrook Walk, Alton Tel: 01420 84845 or 01420 89121, from Inner Wheel members and on the door. The concert starts at 19.00.
