Summer Sounds Memorial Concert

Once again there were two bands (not to mention singers as well) for the price of one in London’s Regent Hall on 9th July, when we were delighted to share the stage with The Salvation Army’s Regent Hall Band and the Songsters. The audience comprised a broad age range, from a group of American students to four Chelsea Pensioners resplendent in their scarlet uniforms.

Principal trombone, Izzy Daws stunned the audience with her dazzling (or maybe sparkling?) rendition of Philip Sparke’s Capriccio for Trombone, which was followed by the whole trombone section’s So Nice to Come Home To (Cole Porter).

The concert was held in memory of Band Chairman Nigel Stevens’ parents, both committed Salvationists, and a retiring collection held for The Alzheimer’s Society raised close on £700. The evening was superbly compered by the inimitable Frank Renton, presenter of BBC Radio 2’s Listen to the Band.
