For the past few weeks, BBC Radio 3 has included a brass band recording during Petroc Trelawny's (pictured) Breakfast Show - ‘Breakfast Brass’ - chosen by brass band guru Paul Hindmarsh. Last Tuesday (6th) saw Paul select Isobel Daws’ stunning solo performance of Arthur Pryor’s Thoughts of Love, recorded as part of Friary's set at the 2019 Brass in Concert contest.
Her performance brought the house down at The Sage, Gateshead, earning Izzi the Don Lusher award for the best trombonist, and doubtless contributing to Friary winning the Audience Entertainment award. The piece was broadcast shortly after 8.15, between items by Percy Grainger and Ludwig van Beethoven, and it was fitting that the initial part of the rapturous reaction from the audience at The Sage was included.
