Friary Players Shine at scaba Solo & Duet Contest

Friary Guildford players once again shone at the scaba Solo & Duet contest, held at

St Paul’s College, Burgess Hill on 13th February. Six players took part: Jeremy Home (cornet), Roland Knight (trombone), Craig Rickards (Eb bass), Lauren Straker (flugel),

Richard Straker (cornet) and Mike Trumble (euphonium).

In the Open Slow Melody class, Lauren Straker took top honours with a beautiful melodic rendition of Dimitri, with Richard taking third place as well as runner-up in the Open Solo class with his spirited playing of Jubilance. The couple were also in perfect harmony to win the Open Duet class with the ever-popular Flower Duet from Delibes’ opera Lakmé, retaining the trophy which they won on its introduction last year.

Congratulations to them and to all the players who participated.
